Prescription Drugs can cure illness and block pain, and sometimes we need their beneficial effects. These drugs can also cause dependency and side effects that interfere with life. Prescription drugs are not safe for use by anyone other than the person for whom they were prescribed. Some commonly abused prescription drugs include amphetamines, Valium, and Percodan. These are referred to on the street as “uppers” and “downers.” Overdose or use with alcohol can cause death.

Warning: It is illegal for anyone to sell or trade prescription drugs that are considered controlled substances. See the warning label on the side of the bottle for this information.

Someone who abuses alcohol or other drugs may be unable to recognize the seriousness of his/her problem. It is important to seek information about how to get help for yourself or a friend. There are many alternatives to “doing drugs.” Help is available.
